Rebel activities at center of ComVal meet

Peace and order up in
ComVal RDC XI meeting

Government officials in Region XI are set to tackle by the horn the uneasy peace and order in the region, even as developmental efforts appear unmoved by intensified activities by communist rebels.
The Regular Meeting of the Regional Development Council would be held in September at the Compostela Valley Provincial Capitol hosted by Governor Arturo Uy.
Gov. Uy last week presided over a meeting with provincial government and police officials to draw up preparations for the event where more than 100 local officials and government line agency heads are expected to attend.
RDC Chairman Vicente Lao and Regional Peace and Order Council (RDC)
chairman Davao del Sur Governor Douglas Cagas would lead discussion on current peace and order situation, in wake of renewed activities by the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels.
Gov. Uy however said also up for serious discussion are development efforts being pursued as Region XI positions itself as a key investment area. Businessmen here said military and rebel clashes in the hinterlands hardly affected economic growth with investors confidence still intact despite rebel activities.
Isabelo Melendrez said the ComVal provincial government would leave no stone unturned to make the RDC gathering a big success. Last week’s preparatory meeting was attended by P/Supt. Ronald la Rosa, provincial police chief, and provincial government department chiefs.
To attend the coming meeting are Davao del Norte Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario, Davao Oriental Gov. Corazon Malanyaon, RPOC chair Davao del Sur Gov. Douglas Cagas, Tagum City Mayor Rey Uy sa Tagum and City, former RPOC chair Davao City Mayor Rody Duterte.
